Heart Shaped Box

0 0

She was walking along the lane
Going down the river stream bed
Whistling around her happy tune
And listening along to the radio

She got back home, was in a happy mood
The fresh air outside made her feel blissful
But she got back, to see that she got a gift
She was surprised, because she didn’t know who from

It was a small heart shaped box
So cute and beautiful, it was made
Painted in red with some polka dots
And a letter too from some Mr. X

It read, “My dear beautiful lady”
Blushed she was, feeling so shy
She didn’t know who that is from
But those words made her feel something high

“You’re one beautiful girl, one of the cutest
So filled with joy and full of charm
You’re so enthusiastic and so smart
I don’t know how I ever lived without you.”

She was happy but was very shy indeed
For she knew that some boy had a crush on her
She imagined that person to be handsome
With a fit body and also a moustache.

She started dreaming about the time
Everything that she will do with Mr. X
And in that happiness and joy, she opened
That box, that heart-shaped box

Inside was a soldier’s hat along with a photo
And a note with something scribbled inside
She took out the note with high hopes
But her happiness had turned to tear fast

“Dear, I know today is a special day for you
And I know that you have lived to be a good woman
I know that you love your mother so deeply
Like you had loved me once, your father

I told your mother to wait to give you this letter
So that you can understand everything I went for
But for now, let this time be your happiest
And I wish you a happy 18th birthday”

Tears of sadness fell from her eyes
In remembrance of her father who died in the war
She took that hat and put it on her head
And gave a salute to the soldier, her father.
